APPLICATION
Stage 1 – Interview:
-
A) Prepared: short solo piano performance, approximately RCM grade 10 level (one selection, own choice)
B) Prepared: sing a children’s song (own choice) while accompanying yourself at piano
C) Sight playing - 24-32 bars, 2 hands
D) Improvisation I: A theme will be provided with chord symbols. First time through add accompaniment (in solid chords). Second time through add thematic and accompaniment variation.
E) Improvisation II: A 2 bar motif will be provided. Build a 24-32 bar piece on it.
Stage 2 - Yamaha Teacher Candidate Evaluation (TCE):
Yamaha Teacher Candidate Evaluation (TCE):
Successful interview candidates will be required to complete the TCE – a 45-minute standardized test from Yamaha Canada,
which consists of performance and written elements.
YAMAHA TEACHER TRAINING:
Upon successful completion of the first two stages, candidate must be available to attend the Yamaha Teacher training seminar in Toronto during August. The cost of seminar is covered by Yamaha Canada. Participation in one-day support seminars for Yamaha instructors (4 Fridays during the year) is strongly recommended.
Applicants who successfully pass the Stage 1 interview will be asked to observe at least 2 sessions of a current JMC class.
